SAWYER

Thirty minutes later, Graham and I climb on board a yellow, rusty van the others have rented for us from some shady guy on the street. Music blares from the old squeaky speakers. Julian’s behind the wheel and once we’re all ready, he drives off.

We’re going night bathing and they’ve prepared everything because they’ve even packed bathing suits for me and Graham. Along with that, they packed food, drinks, surfboards, among other things.

The sun is setting, casting an orange glow on everything. There’s something magical about that kind of light, especially here in Athens. It feels like the sun is closer to us now somehow than at home.

I find myself relaxing enough that I actually drink some cider and take two shots. The music is thumping through the car and we’re singing along to “Hymn For The Weekend” by Coldplay. The sunroof is open and Avery, Mia, and I are hanging out of it, and they’re dangling their hands over their heads. I sway along to the beat, singing along too, only not as loud as them. My hair fans out in the wind and the longer along we drive, the stronger the salty scent of the ocean becomes.

A sharp turn makes me loose balance, and I tumble to my seat. Graham throws me a worried glance, but he grins. “You okay?”

“Yeah,” I say, a sheer layer of sweat coating my forehead. I’m out of breath and I sink against the leather of the seat. “Hand me a bottle.” I wave my hand in a silly gesture at the cooler bag next to Graham.

He chuckles and opens it, tossing me a water bottle. As inept as I am, I don’t catch it and it hits my lap at the same time as I reach for it in the air. Graham breaks out laughing, his fingers rubbing over his eyebrows before they slide down to pinch his nose and then up again to brush back his hair.

“You have an awful catch. We gotta work on that.”

“Why? I’m not a wide receiver, nor do I have any plans to become one.”

He tilts his head back against the headrest, his face angled upward so his jawline protrudes. That jawline is immaculate. He smiles, his eyes looking relaxed from that exact angle. His knees are spread and then he lifts his arms to interlock them behind his head.

A simple movement like that shouldn’t be this attractive.

Okay, so I lied. Graham is hot. Like, I feel like I might catch fire if I so much as touch him, hot.
